Learn More About Our Family-Owned 4-Star Barbados Resort
Bougainvillea Barbados is a family owned and operated 4 star boutique hotel. The Seale family, led by the patriarch and veteran hotelier Gordon Seale, first purchased Bougainvillea’s “big sister”, an intimate beachfront resort called Sand Acres in 1986. Sand Acres was located on the eastern side of what is now Bougainvillea. Sadly, due to the age of the property, which was originally built in 1968, the Seale family had to say good-bye to Sand Acres in 2020 – two years after it ceased operations.
Bougainvillea Beach Resort first opened its doors in 1995 and as development continued, completed its 100 rooms and suites in 1998. Since then, it has been a favourite home away from home for its over 40% repeat guests; which is the biggest testament to the very special place that it is. In 2018, after an extensive renovation, Bougainvillea Beach Resort, was rebranded “Bougainvillea Barbados”. Yet, even with this change, the core remains the same - extraordinary staff, the personal touch, the gorgeous beach views and the laidback vibe that bring you back again and again.
Bougainvillea moved into the big sister role in 2014 with the Seale family’s acquisition of what is now Sugar Bay Barbados.
Together, the resorts fall under the Odyssey Collection Brand. A nod to the epic journey the family has had with the hotels and guests they love.
